A table is a piece of furniture with a flat top and one or more legs that serves as a work, eating, or storage surface.  The dining room table is where seated people eat meals; the coffee table is a low table in living rooms where items are displayed or refreshments are served; and the bedside table is where an alarm clock and a lamp are placed. There are also specialized types of tables, such as drafting tables and sewing tables, which are used to create architectural drawings.
Design elements that are common include:
top surfaces in a variety of shapes, including rectangular, square, rounded, semi-circular, and oval.
Legs arranged in two or more similar pairs. In most cases, it has four legs. Some tables, on the other hand, are supported by three legs, a single heavy pedestal, or are affixed to a wall.
